Cloud platforms democratize technology for small businesses
I’m preparing a set of articles that combines cloud architecture and business ideas for small businesses. Here’s the first one.
If you had a bakery, what would you do to sell more?
Bakeries are a tough business. So tough that if you don’t sell the bread, it gets… hard, and then all you can do is make breadcrumbs. Moreover, competition is fierce, and it’s hard to differentiate yourself from others.
Your competitive advantage mainly depends on the quality of your products and your proximity to your customers.
My proposal is to create a mobile app for selling sandwiches, specialized for schools, high schools, and offices. You order your sandwich, and it arrives just in time for the break.
Orders would be received through a nanoservice (a function in AWS Lambda) to register them in a database. The baker could partner with a restaurant and use a dashboard to prepare the orders.
What’s the advantage of using AWS Lambda?
This business line doesn’t need to have servers running constantly. The first million requests per month to AWS Lambda are free (after that, it’s $0.20 per million), so the costs would be minimal.
Want to sell more?
Include a QR code on the wrapper with a small origami video that can be collected.
What do you think of the idea?
If you were the owner of a bakery, would you use it?
Would you buy sandwiches through an app like this?
